THE ONE PIECE OF ART

BLEU CRÉER

KIM SEA JOONG

MAY 27-JULY2, 2022

THE ONE PIECE OF ART, organized by ARTBN, is an exhibition-type art project that focuses on a single piece of work by a selected artist and shows the artist's art world in more depth, along with a production video. ARTBN presents KIM SEA JOONG's solo exhibition, untitled BLEU CRÉER (Blue. Create), as the third exhibition of THE ONE PIECE OF ART, from May 27 through July 2, 2022.

KIM SEA JOONG, active in Paris for many years, has implemented various visual components on a flat surface through his formative language for his long-term concept of light and space. His work must have started with visualizing the abstract idea of light, which the artist wanted to express, in a little flat rather than an infinite space. From pictorial brush strokes to absolute time to produce a three-dimensional form, numerous processes have been created, and in the process, irregular or unpredictable structures are discovered by interlocking each other. Through the interaction of multiple components, each characteristic and different new phenomenon and order are created. The coexistence of formativeness, which significantly varies by the combined state and combination, looks like a living organism with an inseparable, mutually organic relationship as each part has a close connection. The blue color in work evokes tranquility, serenity, or peace. The energy of light that looks lively and splendid and the contrasting darkness (shadow) together have another relationship and harmoniously expand into an infinite space by adding artistic imagination.

In THE ONE PIECE OF ART, we will introduce <Blue Light> (2021, 160x160cm, canvas cloth, aluminum net, pigment) as a piece of work. It is not simply about the production process, but the artist's attitude towards the work and the preparation process, showing the time and records accumulated in one piece about the artist's sincerity in the fight and the process. The artist closes up the process of creating space in a flat surface and expressing light in that space with a lens in detail, making it into a video as if stitching each image one by one, and showing it, in fact, like a time travel back to the time of the first birth of the completed work. The thinly cut and folded canvas fabric is cut to have a certain length, such as long and short, and the angled edges are cut diagonally, and then the different sizes are gathered together to make a canvas module. Making various angles to bring out the feeling of light emanating, as if drawing the glow radiating one by one with a brush, he fills in as much as the area marked on the wire mesh and inserts the cut canvas modules one by one through time and repetitive labor processes. In this way, <Blue Light> is completed through numerous methods. We wonder what flow of thought the artist creates during that countless hours to capture the light.

In another exhibition space, objects close to the artist's daily life appear, such as paints, hot glue guns, raw material containers, dust masks, wine bottles, and discarded computer parts commonly found in the studio. About ten pieces of <The Amusement Between Death and Salvation (The Play of Traces and Resurrection)> (CLICK SEE THE WORK), a series of objet works that have been painted with blue pigment on the surface of the object and infused with new energy, will also be on display. The artist has been thinking about human life and death for a long time, conveying its meaning to us in a little easy and familiar language by adding artistic wit.
