This exhibition introduces works that abstractly capture the visual accumulation contained in the plane created by the essential act of lines while focusing on the issues of the language of perception and emotion and the relationship between repetition and time.

Open-line structures present various forms that gradually become more complete. This structure forms a framework centered on the most essential lines without any unnecessary decoration. At the same time, it establishes the artist's important concept and language on the canvas. If the abstract language of concepts and the drawing of concrete lines are based on the rules and logic created by the artist, the combination of these two may be the artist talking about the expansion into infinite abstract forms.

The work does not deal with whether it is a conscious or unconscious act. Also, it is optional to approach it with the grand art historical meaning of abstraction. Placing meaning on the execution, process, and actions produced by the artist's artistic concept can establish a more solid idea of the artist. Traces are created countless times, pulling everything from the bottom and transferring it to the canvas. Sometimes, they disappear from the screen, leaving only a part behind, or they leave their traces.

When the layers of paint are created, the canvas has its fate without any set action to take next. However, the artist's artistic autonomy determines the final completed work. The strange harmony created by a simple color seems connected like a symbol. This is the artist's conceptual language through this exhibition, and I want to focus on abstract expression. The three-dimensional effect created on a flat canvas expands into external space, and this attempt may be because it is not created through intimate calculations but is filled with non-visual elements such as emotion and time. It is the rebirth of an abstract space and has a special meaning in the work. The artist's work does not focus on creating a profound theme but on experimenting with and discovering the primary language, concepts, symbols, and logic that make the production process possible. In this respect, the works introduced in this exhibition have an intersection in dissonance, such as the harmony of abstract concepts and logic in modern art and the harmony of the non-visual and the visual. We want to find the meaning of the work by uniquely expressing it in the artist's language.

PARK Suhyung

In my paintings, I create imagery that embodies my psychological and emotional state. I combine my memories with observations of my daily surroundings.

Starting with an inner exploration of myself, my work expands to external elements of contemporary society of U.S. and South Korea. Individuals are parts within the whole of society. Individuals affect each other in indirect social relations.

My work concerns an existential crisis. Through my personal experience in human relationships and my immediate environment; I try to explore a complex range of human emotions and relationships. The questions about the nature of our preconceptions and opinions based on mass media have become my motivation for my work

Such little moments in my everyday life become the material of my work as particular moments are conveyed onto the canvas as abstract images. Within the controlled structure of a flat canvas I express my unique visual images by adding color and three-dimensionality to abstract images with various material elements such as ink, glitter, and gel medium while centering on acrylics.

I fill my work as much as possible with spatial complexity and continuous repertory in order to communicate the story that I want to tell with the mixed media used in my work. I form my own visual language by using elements of space, color, mixed media and freely expressing with dip pen ink line drawings on top of that, inviting the viewer into the story embedded within my work.
